Milwaukee’s role as a Great Lakes cruise ship destination is taking a big step forward.

Pearl Mist, a Great Lakes cruise ship, is docked near Discovery World in Milwaukee.
A new agreement guarantees that the Port of Milwaukee will be a turnaround location for the Pearl Mist cruise ship from 2021 through 2030 — with an option for the cruise line to extend that service to 2040.
The lease was approved Thursday by the city Board of Harbor Commissioners. It also needs Common Council approval.

It provides priority docking rights at Pier Wisconsin, the downtown dock immediately east of Discovery World, to Guilford, Connecticut-based Pearl Seas Management (USA) LLC.
The lease guarantees the Pearl Mist will use the pier for turnaround operations at least five times annually.
