Since before Thanksgiving, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been reiterating one message to Americans amid the rising cases of COVID-19: Stay home. With the upcoming holidays, the agency is once again sharing words of advice about traveling for the holidays.

“Travel can increase your chance of spreading and getting COVID-19,” the CDC says in its updated domestic travel guidelines. “Postponing travel and staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.”

Despite this urgent message, however, over 980,000 people traveled on the weekend before Thanksgiving. This is a much lower number

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — Because residents can’t come to see Santa Claus at South Euclid city hall this year, Santa will come to the residents.

The city, as a way of bringing holiday cheer to residents, will hold its first “South Euclid Holiday Parade” from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 13. “We’ve mapped out a route throughout the city we think will reach the majority of residents,” said Community Development Coordinator Daniel Subwick. “Santa Claus and a couple of his holiday pals in costume will be going down many of our streets and they will be passing out gifts to residents as they pass by. There will be a special treat for the first 100 residents.

“The parade will be going through most neighborhoods in the city, but we’re not able to go down every street.”

TOKYO – About 18 percent of the tickets sold in the Japanese domestic lottery will be refunded, the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee announced here on Thursday.

The Kyodo news agency said that Tokyo 2020 received requests from Nov 11 to 30 for refunds for some 810,000 tickets out of about 4.45 million tickets sold for the Japanese market.

According to the refund policy, the organizers only accepted those tickets purchased on the official website, and tickets bought outside Japan are not covered. It has been reported that over one million tickets have been sold

On top of this, trains, flights and coaches will all be running at reduced capacities due to ongoing social distancing measures. Tickets have nearly sold out across some long-distance routes.

On booking website Trainline, at the time of publication, tickets from London to Newcastle were already incredibly limited for Dec 23, with only a few seats remaining on most journeys.

Tickets were close to selling out for many journeys from London to Edinburgh on the same date, as were tickets for trips from London to Cardiff, particularly in first-class carriages.

As usual, there will be no trains running on Christmas Day itself, and a very limited number of services running on Boxing Day.

The Government has appointed Sir Peter Hendy, the chairman of Network Rail, to examine whether transport links across the country will be fit for purpose over Christmas.
